2010 Louisville Visual Arts Festival: GLASS30: 4 Weeks of Fire

June 9 - July 10, 2010

Glass Logo

In June 2010, Louisville hosted the Glass Arts Society (GAS) international convention. This was a great honor for the Louisville arts community and a great opportunity for the city of Louisville to impact the national arts scene.

As such, the 2010 Louisville Visual Arts Festival featured glass art and was named GLASS:30 - 4 Weeks of Fire. The LVAF attracted visitors throughout the region to come to Louisville as an arts destination, further enhancing the city's reputation as fertile ground for creativity and emerging artists, and promoting the sponsoring organizations both regionally and nationally.

2009 Louisville Visual Arts Festival: Center For Photographic Studies

June 5th - Juy 31st, 2009

Center for Photographic Studies

The theme for the inaugural Festival was the Center for Photographic Studies, an independent art photography school which existed in Louisville between 1970 and 1978. Founded by C.J. Pressma, who is still a vibrant and important part of Louisville's art scene, the Center provided access for its students to teaching and darkroom facilities, and was a unique resource for the promotion of photographic art within the region.

The first Louisville Visual Arts Festival included 37 coordinated exhibits at the sponsoring organizations, contemporary photographic artworks throughout Louisville, mostly by artists connected with the Center. At the conclusion of the Festival, 2 photographic pieces from each participating venue were put towards a closing exhibit and reception held at Mellwoods Arts Center.
